As of January 1, 2020, Oregon’s statewide ban on single-use plastic shopping bags is in effect.
If you forget a reusable bag, stores will charge you five cents for each paper bag. Low income shoppers on state assistance can still get the paper bags for free. The charge is to help cover the cost of paper bags for the retailer.
The statewide ban was created to eliminate the use of cheap plastic bags in Oregon to keep them out of the landfills and the environment.
Starting January 2024, pre-registration will be required for households and small businesses to attend Hood River and The Dalles hazardous waste events.
